“Editing fiction is like using your fingers to untangle the hair of someone you love.” – Stephanie Roberts
My professional career in editing began in 2000, when I started my first administrative position. Since then, I worked my way into management and small business ownership, while editing technical documents like policy and procedure manuals, employee handbooks, and business plans.
My fiction editing experience started around the same time, after taking several graduate level courses in English and Creative Writing. I’ve since worked with dozens of authors on their manuscripts, from the first draft all the way through publication. I love fiction editing because it’s intensely personal and requires clear communication. My goal is to clarify intentions, tighten and enhance the manuscript, and preserve the author’s voice. Visit the testimonials page to find out more about what the experience has been like for the authors I’ve worked with.
When I worked with Kyanite Publishing, I provided developmental edits, copy edits, and proofreading. I also shepherded the manuscripts from the first to the last stage of production. My strengths, outside of editing, are time-management and organization. Both come in handy with freelance editing!
I am well-versed in current trends, styles, and guidelines, and I’ll put all of that to work on your project(s). Further, I’ll continue to support you and your journey as an author long after we finish the process in whatever ways I can, including posts on social media! I live to see the authors I work with succeed and to hold their finished books in my hands.
When I’m not editing or working on creative ventures, I love to spend time with friends and family. I am currently located in Portland, Oregon, and love to travel between here and Colorado, Hawaii, and California (to visit with family, primarily). I look forward to getting to know you!
